Sigma Puppies 2021

Dean J. Condoleo

To start off the month of November, the men of the Iota Chapter of Sigma Pi fraternity held the annual “Sigma Puppies” fundraiser in the Marillac Cafeteria on St. John’s University’s campus. Having food catered, each plate of food was given out for $5 donations towards the St. John’s University Student Veteran Association. Our Chapter raised over $300 in the one hour and twenty-five minutes allotted.

The mission of the St. John’s University Veterans Success Center (VSC) is to support student veterans at St. John’s University in their pursuit of higher education. According to the association’s page on St. John’s University’s website, “the Center assists student veterans with successful transitioning from military service to University life through networking opportunities, resources, community service, and advocacy. The VSC aims to foster an environment honoring military service and improving the quality of their University experience.” The Iota Tau Chapter has been involved with the VSC for years, organizing the Sigma Puppies event.

Michael Addeo, member of the Kappa class, stated how “it was great that we were able to raise awareness and money for such a great cause. We had a great turnout and everyone that came was extremely supportive. Getting the opportunity to have dogs help us in such a charitable way was one of the most enjoyable events we have done all year. Thank you to everyone who came out!”
