On Founder’s Day, the Iota Tau Chapter was up and out early, eager to be Grand Sage Steve Lawler and AED Joe Drain’s tour guides for the day.
We started our journey in Queens. St. John’s University was excited to welcome the guests. Although the school was closed, we met with Chris McGill, Director of Greek Life at St. John’s, to give GS Lawler and AED Drain a sense of the greek community on campus. After meeting up with a few more brothers, we walked throughout campus, and ended by our ACE Project. This is a bench donated from our chapter to the students and administration of SJU. This year, we have hopes of adding to the area, by planting some flowers, and also hosting a BBQ for staff, administrators, and students in the area.
After our campus tour, our Chapter President, VP, and former Herald along with our guests headed into Midtown Manhattan, where we had a nice Italian lunch at Tony DiNapoli’s.
We had to walk off our food though, so we headed to all the touristy spots. We started in the World Famous Times Square, where we proudly held our flag to celebrate 121 years of Sigma Pi. We then visited the newly renovated St. Patrick’s Cathedral. A bonus was added to the tour, when we got a behind the scenes look at FOX News Studios, a highlight for the group for sure.
Since we had time to kill, we ventured into the depths of the subway with GS Lawler and AED Drain, and went downtown to the Freedom Tower and 9/11 Memorial. This definitely resonated with the group.
The day ended with us dropping off Grand Sage Lawler at the airport, so he could head back home to Iowa…For sure a different setting than crazy busy NYC.
The Iota Tau Chapter thoroughly enjoyed their day, the conversations we shared with our leaders, and welcomes back anyone who wants to get a taste of our chapter’s, school’s, and city’s spirit.
~Happy Founder’s Day & as always…Roll Pi
